Lettermatch Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 May 2026

The short version

Lettermatch does not collect, store, or share personal data. The game runs entirely on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party data collection inside the app.

This page exists because privacy laws and the app stores require one even when there’s nothing to disclose, and because you deserve to know exactly what does and doesn’t happen with your information.

If you only want the practical summary: nothing leaves your device except optional in-app tip purchases, which are handled entirely by Apple and Google.

The rest of this page explains the detail.

1. Who is responsible for this app

Lettermatch is made and operated by Michael Hammell, an individual developer based in Sydney, Australia. For any privacy question, contact:

fatfairygames@gmail.com

Under EU GDPR terminology, I am the “data controller” for any data the app touches.

2. What the app stores on your device

Lettermatch keeps the following information on your device only, using standard device storage (localStorage on web, equivalent native storage on iOS and Android):

  • Your daily puzzle progress and accumulated scores
  • Your tip-jar history (which tip tier you chose, if any, and when — used only to throttle tip-jar prompts so they don’t repeat)
  • Your settings preferences (theme, audio toggle, reduced-motion preference, etc.)

This data is stored locally and is never transmitted to any server controlled by me. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this information is permanently lost — there is no cloud backup, because there is no account system.

3. What happens when you tip

Tipping is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store (on iOS) or Google Play Billing (on Android). When you tip:

  • Apple or Google processes your payment using the card or payment method you have stored with them. I never see your card details, billing address, or any personal payment information.
  • I receive a receipt confirmation containing a transaction ID and the tip tier purchased (e.g. “tip_005”). This receipt does not identify you personally — it identifies a transaction.
  • The app records locally on your device that you tipped, so it can avoid asking you again unnecessarily. This local record is never sent anywhere.

For Apple’s full privacy practices regarding App Store purchases, see Apple’s App Store & Privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/app-store. For Google Play, see policies.google.com/privacy.

4. What I genuinely do not collect

To be unambiguous, Lettermatch does NOT:

  • Use any analytics service (no Google Analytics, no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no internal telemetry)
  • Use any crash reporting service (no Crashlytics, no Sentry, no Bugsnag)
  • Include any advertising SDK
  • Track your behavior across other apps or websites
  • Collect your name, email, location, contacts, photos, microphone access, or any device permission beyond what’s necessary to display the game
  • Use cookies (other than what the App Store and Play Store may set on their own listing pages, which is governed by their privacy policies, not this one)
  • Build a user profile of any kind
  • Operate any mailing list, newsletter, or other off-app contact mechanism

5. Hosting of this privacy policy

This privacy policy is hosted on Lettermatch’s website. When you visit the page, the hosting service may log standard web request information including your IP address, browser type, and the page you accessed. This is standard internet operation and is not used by me to identify you. The hosting service’s own privacy practices apply to that logging.

6. Children

Lettermatch is not designed for, marketed to, or directed at children under 13 (under 16 in some EU jurisdictions). Since the app does not collect data from anyone, this is straightforward in practice.

7. Your rights

You have a number of legal rights regarding personal data. Because Lettermatch collects nothing, most of these rights have nothing to act on — but here they are:

The right to know what data is held about you. For the app: none.

The right to have data deleted. For the app: clear the app’s data on your device, or uninstall it.

The right to correct inaccurate data. Not applicable — no data is held.

The right to data portability (GDPR). Not applicable — no data is held.

The right to object to processing or withdraw consent. Stop using the app.

The right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your data (CCPA). I do not sell or share personal data. There is nothing to opt out of.

The right to complain to a regulator. If you believe I have mishandled your data, you may complain to your local data protection authority:

  • EU/EEA users: your national data protection authority. A list is at edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/about-edpb/members_en.
  • UK users: the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
  • California users: the California Privacy Protection Agency at cppa.ca.gov.
  • Australian users: the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Note that the Australian Privacy Act 1988 may not formally apply to Lettermatch given my status as a small business under the AUD $3M threshold, but I aim to honor its principles regardless.

To raise any privacy question, email fatfairygames@gmail.com. I will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

Because Lettermatch holds no personal data on any server controlled by me, the security concerns most apps face do not apply here. The app stores some information locally on your device — this is protected by your device’s standard operating system security.

If you become aware of a security issue with the app itself, please contact me at the address above.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the change. Material changes — for example, if I ever added analytics or any new data flow — will be announced in the app’s About page. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the updated terms.

I do not anticipate material changes, because the brand promise is that Lettermatch does not collect data. If that ever stopped being true, this policy and the app’s positioning would both reflect it openly.
